ECS A785GM-AD3 Motherboard

Product image Product image
The A785GM-AD3 is supplied in a standard motherboard box that should provide adequate protection for the product inside. On the rear of the box we find a plethora of information about the motherboard and inside there are drive cables, I/O shield, quick install guide and full manual.

ECS have used a black PCB with red and yellow components which gives the board a high visual impact. It has a centrally aligned AM3 CPU socket at the top of the board with 4 x DDR3 1600 RAM slots located to the right. These can hold a maximum of 32Gb. This board supports all AM3 CPUs, including the four being tested today. The DirectX 10.1 AMD 785G Northbridge with Radeon 4200 graphics is cooled using a small passive heatsink while the power circuitry is left bare with no cooling solution present.

The five SATA connectors use the AMD SB710 chipset and are capable of RAID 0, 1 and 10 operation but due to the positioning are prone to being covered by some dual slot graphics cards. Therefore use of low profile cables will be required for some users. On the left hand side of the board we find two PCI-E 1x slots, a PCI-E 16x slot and three standard PCI slots.

As far as I/O ports go ECS have covered most bases. Moving right to left, we find two PS2 ports, VGA, DVI, 6 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB2.0/eSATA combo port, Realtek 8111DL GB-LAN, 7.1 audio jacks and an S/PDIF optical out port which uses the Realtek 888S chipset.

ECS use an American Megatrends BIOS for the A785GM-AD3 motherboard. We find the performance configuration under the M.I.B. II screen which integrates all overclocking options. These include CPU frequency, memory settings and voltage control.

Full BIOS Screens can be downloaded here.
