Crucial M500 SSD 960GB Review

Maximum Read/Write Performance

ATTO disk benchmark allows us to run a synthetic test on the various drives which are being reviewed today, letting us see the peak speed achieved on each model.

As a quick reminder, the controllers in each comparison drive are as follows (latest gen unless stated)…

Samsung: Samsung
OCZ: Indilinx
PNY: Sandforce
SanDisk: Marvell (9175)

For this test we see that the M500 gives us a good, solid read speed which isn’t quite class leading but is an improvement on the last generation of Marvell controller. Peak write speed is also decent, giving us well over 450MB/s on a SATA3 based board. We also re-tested the M500 at the end of our review process and found that it ran at 541.68MB/s read and 443.78MB/s write before rising back up to 455MB/s write after time to perform in-built NAND maintenance which should mean decent long term performance without too much impact from use.
