Seeing new things is always fun but often we find that there is a fresh take on product design, even on fairly simple products. Today that could be the case as we look at a new universal cooler in our CRYORIG H5 Review. CRYORIG H5 Review – Packaging and Bundle The H5 universal cooler arrives in a fairly large box which gives us an image of the cooler on the front. The other sides have some product info and then inside we find the bundled items, in separate compartments and neatly bagged. Those components include backplates for AMD and Intel installs, thermal paste, extra fan mounts and a screwdriver. Socket compatibility is 2011, 1366, 1150, 1155, 1156, 775, FM1/2, AM2+ and AM3+. CRYORIG H5 Review – The Cooler Looking at the cooler itself we have a unit which measures 98x143x160mm (LxWxH) with the heatsink weighing 700g. The aluminium fins have a thickness of 0.4mm with a gap of 2.8mm and there are 38 of them. CRYORIG use a Hive Fin design for one side which is said to increase strength, reduce turbulence and therefore offer more efficient cooling. Attached to the cooler at the factory is a XT140 fan which has dimensions of 140x140x13mm and it adds an extra 89g to the cooler. CRYORIG rate this for 700-1300RPM with 24dBA max noise level and air flow of 65CFM. It features low noise bearings and rubber vibration absorbers to minimise sound. Running through the fins are four heatipies and these are copper with nickel plating, just like the CPU block. CRYORIG note that they have positioned the heatpipes for optimal coverage of the CPU and CRYORIG H5 Review – Installation and Performance The CRYORIG mounting system is MultiSeg and we begin, on all but 2011 sockets, by adding a backplate and passing screws through out motherboard holes. From there we attach a set of thumbscrews… … and then screw on our mounting bars with four more thumbscrews. After applying our thermal paste we then place the heatsink on our cooler, no need to remove the fan, and pass the bundled screwdriver through the heatsink, tightening it down. The final step is to plug in the 4 pin fan connector to our motherboard. Quick and simple! The only difference on 2011 is that we skip the backplate step and use the Intel mount. Test Platform: Z97, i7-4790K at stock and at 1.45v/4.8GHz. In there you can view mini videos about the install before purchasing which is way better than any product documentation could ever be. The packaging used by CRYORIG is also good quality and they have a nice idea with their compatibility checker, an origami pattern which folds to show the size and clearance of the various coolers and when positioned on our board will highlight any problems. For the H5 Universal, it is specifically designed to be compatible with larger memory and as the image above shows, even with some tall sticks the thin fan allows us to install without any problems. In fact installation was very easy indeed. We needed to check one step in the manual just to be sure of the orientation of the mounting bars and that was it. We also like that the fan is pre-installed and that it doesn’t need removed to screw in the cooler. For build quality we noted no issues with the H5, it was well assembled with a good quality finish and decent soldering. In terms of performance, the H5 competes well with similar coolers, allowing us to run our i7 CPU at a good overclock and noise levels were low which is always ideal on a performance cooler.
