CS551: a DFI motherboard for extreme conditions!

CS551: a DFI motherboard for extreme conditions!

When we say “extreme conditions”, we immediately think of overclocking under nitrogen. However, some sectors see their components exposed to extremely low or high temperatures. This is the case in Denver in the United States, for example, where the temperature dropped by 37°C in one night last September. It is to resist this type of climatic condition that the DFI brand launches its CS551, a motherboard with integrated heating!

CS551: a DFI motherboard resistant to extreme temperatures!

DFI CS551With this model, the brand offers a card in 3.5″ format (146 x 102 mm) equipped with an Intel LGA-1151 socket and an Intel C246 chipset. So you are ready to support Core i of eighth or ninth generation. On the memory side, we find a single DDR4 SO-DIMM slot that can take up to 32 GB of memory in 2666 MHz ECC or not.

Otherwise, it is a question of a card equipped with a single SATA III 6 Gbps. The latter is also complemented by an M.2 2280 connector for SSDs in PCIe x4. Just above it is a mini PCIe slot.

Despite its extremely compact size, this model incorporates everything necessary to make it a classic desktop platform. We have two video outputs in DisplayPorts as well as a double Ethernet connector managed by Intel I211AT or I210IT. The same goes for the audio part with a Realtek ALC262 chip. For the USB, we find four ports with the 3.1 Gen2 standard.

Finally, the particularity of this model lies in its extremely compact format, but also in its ability to manage in very particular climatic conditions. For sub-zero temperatures, we find a heating system to avoid the ” cold bug ” but also allowing to boot under negative temperatures. The same goes for high temperatures. The card will manage the resources between the CPU and the GPU to continue running, even at 80°C. The goal is to avoid crashes, on applications like monitoring, traffic analysis or analysis via AI, it would be a shame.
