Discord could be swallowed by Microsoft

There have been numerous reports that Discord is in discussions about a proposed takeover. The company has reportedly received several proposals, and one in particular estimated at more than $10 billion would have shaken the certainty of the current owners.

Created in 2015, Discord was quickly adopted first by the gaming community and then its territory quickly expanded including during the last periods of containment. Its strength is obviously being free to use, multi-platform and having a compelling mobile app, a real Achilles heel among its competitors at its startup.

Discord: A presence on the edge of the social network

The evolution of Discord in the last few years has been surprising. From a simple communication tool, it has gradually become a private room for certain communities. Having an official Discord server where your community can meet and exchange on all subjects is now a “must” and we can only encourage you to take a look at the Discord Overclocking.com.

However, if the company can be proud of its success in terms of growth, the economic independence of the platform is still not assured. The sources of monetization considered for a while (sale of games for example) have not been as successful as expected and only the Nitro subscription is a source of revenue at this time.

Bloomberg understands that Microsoft is planning to take over Discord to further strengthen its Xbox ecosystem. However, if these rumors really reflect Microsoft’s ambition, at this moment the deal is not signed.
