For Lisa Su, 2021 will be an shi**y year

Lisa Su gave very bad news to potential hardware customers after revealing the company’s financial results. Asked to comment on AMD’s supply and disruption situation for 2021, her words were not exactly positive.

Good results but poor prospects

Indeed, for AMD’s CEO, the shortage of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S consoles and PC components, such as its Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics, will last at least until the second half of 2021. However, she said that consoles will be the most affected, which clearly shows that demand for consoles is very high, above PC components. But then again, since it seems that the production allocated by TSMC for AMD is overwhelmingly for consoles, one wonders how the other products could do better.

AMD Stocks ruptures 2021

AMD confirms that the ruptures will last in 2021

Despite very positive announcements about AMD’s situation, including a strong increase in sales, the value of the company’s shares plummeted as a result. For most analysts, it is now inevitable that supply problems will last much longer than expected. While at one point most companies were announcing a return to normal for the second quarter of 2021, AMD is honest to say that the problem will not be resolved until the second half of the year.

Better in the second half of the year, really?

“We see some tension in the first half of the year, but there is extra capacity in the second half” (Lisa SU ) The situation at TSMC is overheating and there is no indication that the next few months will allow the company to catch its breath. At Nvidia, the question is whether Samsung will be able to improve its performance and feed the market a little better with graphics cards. Our contacts at the brands seemed serene for the best in the second quarter during our discussions at the end of December…they are a lot but then much less optimistic since a few days. Nevertheless, we notice that some references of Ryzen 5000 come back in stock these last days. But the strong tension on stocks continues for the moment to impact the prices… without any real hope of stabilization in the short term.
