Graphics cards: they continue to make fun of us

Graphics cards: they continue to make fun of us

For a few weeks now, a wind of optimism has been blowing through the editorial office: the market was starting to relax, some graphics cards were back (the RTX 3060) and the arrival of the 6600XT would continue to amplify the movement.

Gamers & enthusiasts are not synonymous with “Pigeons

So we’re not naive: we observe the market enough to know that problems remain and that a true return to normalcy is not for tomorrow. However, several indicators here and in other countries clearly gave us hope that we would be able to rebuild our PCs without needing to stock up on Vaseline. We have to admit that the market has gone off the rails… And here in France, some people have decided to amplify the movement. So they will talk to us about the VAT, the miners, the Covid, the aliens, or others…But all these stories do not hold any more, we are not fools. We will not incriminate anyone and we will let the most naive see what is happening around them. We let you judge what is going on, especially with the differences on the RX 6600XT, which has just been demolded by AMD:

6600XT price

Total price anarchy in the graphics card market

Above a first “inconsistency” : the Gigabyte 6600XT ( certainly OC ) VS the same one ( not OC ) on the other side of the Atlantic…Maybe we can be told that it is not the same reference… Or if the swimming distance is too important for you, let’s take the 6600XT

Nitro on the other side of the Channel from our Britishneighbors… If you don’t know how to swim there are also Spain or Germany…

Basic” references like the PowerColer Pulse are 100€ more expensive than our Spanish neighbor!

Brands: “Shake it off or we’ll buy elsewhere”

This situation can be found on most references and this obviously does not only concern AMD cards. AMD has communicated on the MSRP of its 6600XT “a recommended retail price starting at 379$”…A concept that no longer exists. It’s up to you, gentlemen ( or ladies ) of the brands, to make your wishes respected. It’s up to you to clean up your distributors, to put pressure on your partners. Without action on your part, every communication and product launch becomes a vast sham. How can you ask an “objective” press to give an opinion on a product advertised at X € when you find it at X + 50%? For weeks we have had information from some European wholesalers about the arrival of the RTX 3060… The prices they give us simply suggest that some resell these references with margins of over 25%! The brands washed their hands of this situation by putting the pressure on the shoulders of their partners or their distribution network. As a result, the word of all parties is strongly and permanently discredited. This situation has lasted too long and it is time for the brands to intervene with their distribution network… And particularly with us.
