Intel 510 Series 250GB SSD – Packaging and Bundle / Software

Intel’s 510 Series drives arrive in a box which is very similar to the last generation. There is some product information on the outside, including the capacity and the drive is found inside an inner box, wrapped in an anti-static bag.

Bundled with the drive we get a software CD, case sticker, short manual and a set of items which allow us to install the drive in a desktop system, including a 2.5" to 3.5" drive bay converter. The inclusion of a SATA cabling takes Intel above and beyond the bundle most manufacturers offer.

We mentioned above that Intel include a software CD with the 510 series. This contains the Solid State Drive toolbox which lets us monitor and maintain our SSD, maximising its performance over the lifetime of the drive. We can set of a TRIM operation from this tool, monitor its reliability and even perform a secure erase, essentially bringing it back to a factory state.

Also available to Intel SSD users is data migration software which allows us to create backup media to use in the event of an Operating System reinstall, or transfer our existing OS from the current hard drive to the new SSD.
