SiSoft Sandra Pro Business

SiSoft Sandra is an application that we use often in our benchmarks on Driverheaven. While we aren’t firm believers in purely synthetic testing, Sandra uses clever algorithms to replicate real world scenarios and is a good way of getting a baseline before going into real world testing later in the review.

Sisoft Sandra allows us to isolate individual components within our test system and measure their performance. In the first test, CPU arithmetic, we can see that the MHz advantage of the 870 combined with the ability to use 4 extra threads offers it a large performance increase over the 750. Comparing the two new Intel chips to AMDs fastest Phenom 2 shows us that the 870 has better performance throughout with the 750 being a reasonably close match, especially in Dhrystone.

Moving to memory scores the advantages that the Core i7-900 series have over the Lynnfield chips is immediately evident. The extra channel which is available on the higher spec system offers us significantly higher bandwidth. When we compare the 700 and 800 series CPUs to AMD’s DDR3 implementation we see that Intel’s integrated memory controller offers much higher bandwidth. Even the 750 CPU which is using DDR3-1333 in this test is faster than the AMD result.
