Intel Core i7-3930K vs Core i7-3820 vs FX-8150 vs 990X vs 2700K Review

Intel Sandy Bridge Extreme Core i7-3930K and Core i7-3820 vs AMD FX-8150, Core i7-2700K and Core i7-990X

Versus Core i7-3960X

Although the price difference between the high end i7-3960X and our two new Intel CPUs is quite great we thought it useful to see how the performance gap changes from CPU to CPU. Here are two test which assist with this.

Clearly with the new i7 architecture and "out of the box" configurations we see a significant increase in performance the more we spend. Checking back through our previous coverage of the new platform shows that this carries on throughout other areas too, the 3960X averaging 77fps in Skyrim as one example compared to 70 and 66fps on the lower spec models.
