Kingston’s HyperX brand is one of the better known enthusiast ranges. From their memory, to SSDs and now even headsets they have been impressing for some time. Today in our Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4 Review we take a look at some high end 3000MHz modules.

Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4 Review – Packaging and Bundle


No retail packaging for our modules however there isn’t usually much to see on memory packaging. As long as the sticks arrive in a nice protective packet, as Kingstons always do, then we are happy. Bundled with the memory we get a little case sticker and an installation/warranty guide.

Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4 Review – The Modules


The modules themselves use a black PCB and attached to it are large 55mm tall aluminium heatsinks with silver HyperX and Predator branding. Kingston attach a part number sticker to the modules too however there isn’t much on there of use to the average consumer (no timings, speed or voltage). In terms of specifications these modules are 4GB and of course with it being designed for X99, packs are quad channel/4 sticks. XMP is supported and the profiles provided by Kingston are 2666MHz (14-14-14-36 @ 1.35v) as well as the main 3000MHz, 15-16-16-39 which is also at 1.35v. Finally, as is common with memory, Kingston provide a lifetime duration warranty and to further enhance our peace of mind the modules are all factory tested.

Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4 Review – Conclusion

Starting with the build quality and design of the Kingston HyperX Predator modules we are off to a good start. Black PCB is always better than green and the black heatsink matches nicely while also suiting many high performance motherboard colour schemes. With a 55mm height we do need to be a little more picky on the heatsink we use than low profile modules however this isn’t something unique to Kingston and really, many high end users will be using liquid cooling anyway (with minimal space needed round the CPU.

Installation is a breeze, we just drop the modules in to our system taking care to note the motherboard manufacturers recommendations for the slots to use. Then turn on the system, enter the BIOS and select the XMP profile we want (3000 or 2666). The modules will of course boot and function without the XMP step but for maximum performance it is always recommended.

Speaking of performance, given the specifications and higher end pricing, it was clear going into the testing that these modules should be fast. That proved to be the case with the HyperX Predator becoming the fastest DDR4 we have tested to date. As an added bonus they also ran at a very competitive temperature considering the enhanced speed.

Summary: A sizable investment price wise, just as most X99/Haswell-E parts are, however decent design and performance which justify the price.
