LGA-1700: Noctua is working on upgrade kits for its fans!

When a new socket is released, one wonders if its heatsink will remain compatible. Until now, with Intel’s LGA-1100/1200, there was no need to change the center distance from one socket to another. However, with the LGA-1700, it’s a different matter because its dimensions change. So the question comes up again and Noctua says it is working on it.

LGA-1700: Noctua will offer an upgrade kit to this socket!

Intel Alder Lake-S LGA-1700

As we can see, with Alder Lake-S, Intel changes the dimensions of its socket. The latter goes from 37.5 x 37.5 mm for the current one to 37.5 x 45 mm for the next one. This will have an influence on the mounting points on the motherboard. In other words, a ventirad that is compatible with the current platforms will not be compatible in the future.

In this respect, we can always count on Noctua, which has indicated on Twitter that it is working on an upgrade kit. With this kit, users will be able to continue using their heatsink on the new Intel platform. For now, we know that the NH-U12A of the brand is concerned by this news, the Austrian brand answering a question asked by a user.

Finally, you should know that the U12A remains compatible with Intel’s LGA-2000, which offers a larger socket (52.5 x 45 mm). If we follow the reasoning of VideoCardz

, we can think that the heatsinks compatible with the HEDT platforms of Intel and AMD should be compatible with the new LGA-1700 with more compact dimensions. After that, exceptions can always be made depending on the mounting systems, the shape of the bases and heatpipes…
