MAG B550 Torpedo: MSI announces a new motherboard!

New motherboard to join the MSI ranks with the MAG B550 Torpedo. This is a new reference in the standard ATX format with a B550 mid-range chipset. As you can see, this is an AMD board.

MAG B550 Torpedo: A mid-range MSI board for the Ryzen 3000!

MSI MAG B550 TorpedoAs we told you, we are dealing with a motherboard in standard ATX format. It provides an AM4 socket and a B550 chipset, so we’re ready for Ryzen 3000 processors. The brand even announces support for the Ryzen 9 3950X, the same as the ROG GA35 recently tested in our columns.

In terms of connectors, MSI offers us something rather complete. The board actually embeds two PCIe x16 slots. The first one will be a PCIe x16 4.0, provided that a Ryzen 3000 is installed, while the second one will be a PCIe x16 3.0. This little world will also be completed by two other PCIe x1 3.0.

On the storage side, the motherboard features six SATA III connectors complemented by two M.2 ports. The first one will accept PCIe 4.0 x4 SSDs while the second one will accept a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. As always, to take advantage of PCIe 4.0, you will have to opt for a Ryzen 3000 CPU.

In terms of RAM, we have four DDR4 DIMMs for a total capacity of 128 GB. Via the A-XMP OC mode, the motherboard will support memory up to 4866 Mz.

We’ll finish with the power supply phases where MSI announces a total of 10+2+1 phases. On the PCB side, we learn that the copper layers are thicker to improve conductivity and reliability.

For the time being, the brand has not yet announced a price or launch date. Patience, patience…
