Midrange Graphics Card Round Up

Midrange Graphics Card Round Up

When seen ‘in the flesh’ the XFX 9600 GT packaging is very cool, it also has a reasonable level of information such as core speed and amount of memory. On the back there is also mention of various new features such as dynamic contrast enhancement and on the side useful notes on the level of power supply required for operation (500w). Inside the box XFX have included everything we would need to connect the card to just about any display and a free copy of Company of Heroes. Currently the US model comes with a copy of Call of Duty 4 and models manufactured after April 11th will come bundled with Assassins Creed (all regions).

XFX have made a few changes to the reference design for their XXX model. Firstly we have a black PCB with Green DVIs. Next there is a smaller copper cooler which is slightly thicker than the standard design and finally a metal bar has been attached to the top of the card which assists with installation and removal of the product. Style wise this is the most impressive looking card in our roundup. The specifications of this model are also different to the reference design with a core speed of 740MHz, memory of 1000MHz (Samsung K4J52324QE-BJ1A, 1.0ns)  and shader of 1850MHz. This means that the XXX is 25Mhz faster than its closest competitor on core speed and 100MHz faster on shader clock.
