MTE240S: PCIe Gen4 SSD in 500GB and 1TB at Transcend!

MTE240S: PCIe Gen4 SSD in 500GB and 1TB at Transcend!

The next step is a new series of SSDs from Transcend. The brand is announcing its MTE240S models, M.2 format SSDs equipped with a PCIe Gen4 interface. What’s needed to ensure a good level of performance? That’s what we’re going to see.

With these models, Transcend offers two models with capacities of 500 GB and 1 TB. Internally, it’s hard to say what we’re dealing with, as the brand isn’t very talkative. Moreover, we know that 3D NAND is used, but what is its type? Same for the controller. However, a DRAM cache is involved, as well as the interface, which will be in PCIe 4.0 x4, using the NVMe 1.4 protocol.

As far as speed is concerned, the manufacturer announces :

  • 500 GB :
    • Sequential read/write: 3800 MB/s – 2800 MB/s
    • Random read/write: 190k IOPS – 540k IOPS
  • 1 TB :
    • Sequential read/write: 3800 MB/s – 3200 MB/s
    • Random read/write: 370k IOPS – 560k IOPS

In terms of lifespan, the manufacturer announces durable models with 850 TBW for the 500GB version against 1700 TBW for the 1TB model. Finally, for cooling, the manufacturer uses a very thin graphene heatsink. The latter uses the logo of the brand as well as some golden markings.

Unfortunately, prices are still unknown, and we know that the warranty will be 5 years.
