New rumors about Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace GPUs

New rumors about Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace GPUs

We have quite a few rumors that are starting to come out about the future generation of GPUs from Nvidia. The Ada Lovelace family should equip the next RTX 40. The leaks of the day concern the AD102 GPU. It is on this last one that should be based a major part of the construction of the range of cards, whether they are intended for gamers or workstation users. It will be the successor of the GA102 GPU, so its characteristics should give us an idea of what the next top of the range from Nvidia could be.

Ada Lovelace: an update on the main rumors.

  • Bye bye Samsung ?

The rumor that comes back with insistence concerns the foundry that Nvidia should use for this new generation. Warmed up by Samsung’s performance, NVIDIA would use TSMC’s N5 process (5 nm) for the RTX 4000.

  • No MCM for this generation?

While AMD is switching massively to MCM (just like Intel), Ada Lovelace could be a fully monolithic design. It’s too early to tell if this will be a handicap. But the situation is not totally clear at this point. There is speculation that NVIDIA might use an MCM design. The Hopper GPU, which is primarily aimed at the Datacenter & AI segment, is expected to be released soon and will feature an MCM architecture. So this architecture seems to be mastered by the chameleon.

  • A 125% performance jump really?

This figure that has been circulating for several weeks seems crazy. The AD102 GPU seems to have 18432 CUDA cores according to what Kopite was able to get. That’s almost double the number of cores in Ampere, which was already a huge step up from Turing. If we add to this another rumor of the moment, namely a frequency of 2.2Ghz for the top of the range, on paper this data could provide more than double the performance of an RTX 3090… By bottling up all the rumors and shaking hard, WCCFTECH was able to come up with a little chart comparing the last two generations with what Ada Lovelace could be. To be taken with a big pinch of salt of course.
