North Q 3340WLA Extreme

North Q 3340WLA Extreme

Conclusion

What we did like:
The NorthQ 3340WLA offers very good performance at relatively low noise levels and the quality of the heatsink is quite good. The fan of the cooler is decent and very silent at rotational speeds below 1500RPM. Also the fan speed controller (which also acts as a fan failure alarm) is a nice addition.

What we did not like:
There is no single serious flaw with the 3340WLA Extreme, but the fact that the included thermal paste was so terrible left us bewildered. It was by far the worst thermal paste we have seen supplied with a high quality cooler in many years. Until NorthQ replaces it with something considerably better, you should immediately budget in high quality aftermarket thermal compound.

Who would we recommend it to:
The NorthQ 3340WLA Extreme is a very high performance cooler and it is reasonably priced. It is clearly designed for enthusiasts who need the high performance and low noise of a quality tower cooler. Unfortunately the large size of the 3340WLA will not allow it to fit in most HTPC cases, so this audience will have to look elsewhere.

The NorthQ 3340WLA Extreme is a very balanced solution with high performance and low noise as well as being good value for money. It earns our Editor’s Choice Award.

The NorthQ 3340WLA Extreme can be found at scan.co.uk for £30.57 inc vat.
