A Nvidia RTX 2070 with 16 GB of memory. Launched in October 2017, the RTX 2070 was equipped with 8 GB of GDDR6, a capacity that has not been increased since 1070 and that has still not been changed on the refresh (2070 Super) and its replacement (3070). In spite of rumors of variants with more realm, the xx70series has therefore remained with the same amount of memory for almost 5 years. But now a Russian VIK-on youtuber, having had access to Nvidia’s PCB diagrams, has been able, with a few simple modifications (according to the video maker), to replace the 8 Gb of memory on its board with 16 Gb. The new memory was well recognized by GPU-Z and other test software such as FurMark or 3DMark. However, despite the fact that the card works, the addition of memory made it unstable to the point of failing several FurMarktests. The same observation can be made for 3DMark TimeSpy, where the card reaches 6176 points, whereas the average score for an RTX 2070 is 9107points. A do-it-yourself for the beauty of the gesture but which obviously didn’t serve much purpose… Share On
