Nvidia DLSS versus AMD FSR: a tie?

Nvidia DLSS versus AMD FSR: a tie?

Until now, the comparison between the two technologies was relatively theoretical. With the arrival of the first games that allow you to choose between AMD FSR or Nvidia DLSS resizing technologies, the comparison becomes much more interesting. Necromunda: Hired Gun and Marvel’s Avengers are the first two games that allow you to choose, natively one of the two technologies. The comparison becomes much easier and more objective.

Necromunda Hired Gun: in 4K and with an RTX 3090

This was partially done by the youtuber Back4BuckPC Gamer who compared the two technologies at 4K resolution using their best quality profiles. It should be taken into account that he “only” used an RTX 3090 and no other cards.

Bang4BuckPC Gamer’s overall conclusion is that AMD FSR is a very convincing alternative to DLSS at this resolution and at the highest quality settings. FSR has a slight advantage in both performance and image quality in motion.

Marvel’s Avengers: in 1440p and 1080p

Another Youtuber was able to test the second game at lower resolutions. Judging by the screenshots, AMD FSR seems to have some problems rebuilding cables supporting bridges, while DLSS actually adds more fidelity than native 1080p.

In 1440p things balance out and AMD FSR does a great job compared to native 4K quality, however, DLSS clearly adds more fidelity by reconstructing the hairs in more detail. In this case, DLSS image quality is actually better. So at this point, the performance of one technology over the other will depend on the game. But it is confirmed that AMD’s solution, which is open source, is particularly competitive, even on Nvidia cards
