Overclocking Ryzen 3 3100/3300X on the X570/B450

Logo AMD RyzenToday is the official launch of the new Ryzen 3 processors based on the Zen 2 architecture: the 3100 and the 3300X. They complete the AMD offer which already includes the Ryzen 5, 7 and 9. Today, we will initially focus on their overclocking potential. The idea is to see what they are capable of by combining them with the X570 chipset on the one hand and the B450 on the other.

For information, at the base, I was only supposed to concentrate on the Ryzen 3 3300X but having had the opportunity to have a few hours in the hands of the 3100, I will give you a feedback on my impressions under watercooling.

The Ryzen 3100 and the 3300X:

Before I tell you about their overclocking performance, I’ll just briefly explain their differences. These two new processors have 4 cores and 8 threads as well as 18MB for the L3 cache. The first difference is the max boost frequency. It is announced at 4.3 GHz for the 3300X and at 3.9 GHz for the 3100. This frequency has a price consequence, with a price of 110-115 US$ (110€) for the 3100 and 140 US$ (130€)  for the 3300X.

Finally, from a technical point of view, the design is also different. Both have a central I/O die where the memory controller is located. But for the Ryzen 3100, we are on a 2+2 design with each CCX which have 8 MB of L3 cache. For the 3300X, we are on 4+0 where the information is processed in a single CCX.

So the 3100 has two CCX, half of which is disabled while the 3300X has only one but fully active.
