Plextor M6e PCI Express SSD Review

Conclusion

When looking at the design and build quality of the M6e we have a drive which uses quality branded components and seems to be assembled well. The LEDs could be a lttle more stylish though but that is a minor issue. Where we have a bigger problem is in the PCB used. For a product which is aimed at enthusiast gamers, a Green PCB will be very out of place… especially this shade of green. Plextor should have gone for a black or even red PCB to have the card fit with an enthusiast motherboard, GPU etc.

That said the performance of the drive cant really be faulted. The overall architecture of the M6e means that lower capacity models suffer a bit in write speeds but the drive still remains competitive with SATA models. Opt for the 256-512GB versions and the performance limitations are removed, allowing the drive to show its full potential.

Quite simply, in the higher capacity models the Plextor M6e offers storage which is unmatched by SATA alternatives. We get faster copy operations, faster reads, faster writes and faster load/boot times. All that with a 5-year warranty too. Great stuff.
