Pro WS WRX80E-SAGE : Asus annonce une carte workstation pour Threadripper !

Direction Asus which presents a new motherboard. In the program, we are dealing with a reference for the Threadripper CPU. The board in question is none other than the Pro WS WRX80E-Sage Wifi. A reference intended for the professional market that offers a plethora of connections!

Pro WS WRX80E-Sage WiFi: a pro-oriented card from Asus!

Clearly, the design of the card does not deceive, we are dealing with the professional series from Asus. This model has a sWRX8 socket as well as a WRX80 chipset. In short, here is a model designed to accommodate the AMD Threadripper Pro 3000X CPUs.

As you can see, the connectivity is very complete. This model features seven PCIe x16 4.0 reinforced slots. For storage, we will be allowed three M.2 PCIe x4 4.0 M.2 slots as well as two U.2 slots complemented by eight SATA III slots.

On the memory side, there is a configuration with eight memory channels. Since we are facing a pro range, we have ECC memory support. Moreover, we will be able to have fun on the capacity since this card takes up 2Tb of RAM!

On the I/O panel, we will find a double Ethernet 10 Gb/s (Intel X550-AT2) with WiFi 6 module (AX1200). Same on the USB side with the presence of a USB 3.2 Gen 2 type C port in 20 Gbps.

Of course, the power supply part will be at the top level since there are 16 power supply phases for the CPU. These VRMs will be kept cool thanks to a large side heatsink (about 300 gr). To power all this little world, we have the indispensable ATX 24-pin and double EPS12V 4+4-pin connectors for the CPU. But the set is completed by two 6-pin PCIe connectors at the bottom of the board for multi-GPU configurations. A third 8-pin PCIe is also available, this time under the 24-pin ATX.

Finally, we won’t forget to mention the remote management part via an ASMB9-iKVM chip. Basically, we’ll find a remote management of the platform where we’ll be able to monitor the state of the system, temperatures, fan speed, manage users, etc. We will also be able to view the latest blue screens, reboot or start the machine remotely.

What about the price?

In the end, having all of this is nice, but how much does it cost to afford such a card? The answer is: not much, at least not for what it offers. Indeed, according to Andreas Schilling (HardwareLuxx), Asus’ recommended retail price is only €868. Clearly, for a pro card, this is not expensive. As an example, some mainstream cards in Intel Z are displayed à 1500€. Ditto in AMD with some AM4 platforms such as the ASRock X570 Aqua à 999€.

Before leaving each other, fun fact, the motherboard remains very heavy. Indeed, Anandtech was able to make a small tour of this model and they were surprised by the weight of the package, count 5.4 kg for the card and the box (including accessories). They said that out of this total weight, the Pro WS WRX80E-Sage WiFi represents a big part.
