QNAP 639 Pro NAS

QNAP 639 Pro NAS

The QNAP 639 Pro Interior

Sliding out the the hard drive bays and looking inside the front we can see the 6 sata power and interface connectors. this circuit is connected to the motherboard.

Fitting a hard drive is straightforward you simply slide it into one of the bays and attached 4 mounting screws to keep it firmly in place.

Removing the outer shell requires the removal of three screws and a little bit of a struggle to pull it backwards from the holding sections at the front.

Above is the circuit board which handles the front input buttons and displays the information on the LCD panel, this is routed to the motherboard.

The motherboard is housed on the left of the chassis in an upright position and is home to the Intel Atom processor and the 1GB of DDR2 memory. This is double the memory than the previous systems we have looked at and is sure to offer higher performance in more demanding situations While the Atom is no powerhouse, it is ideal for a platform such as this, due to the low power drain – the QNAP OS is also considerably more streamlined than say Windows Vista.

The Atom is a common CPU included in many Netbooks from various manufacturers such as Asus and Sony – many of which we have reviewed before on Driverheaven. The more astute amongst you will notice the covering on the motherboard, this is to ensure no possible shorting against the outer metal shell.

The power supply is a very capable 250W unit from FSP Group and is rated as an efficient 80 plus device. During our testing we found this operated very quietly and did not produce a lot of heat.

Looking inside at a tight angle we can see the mounting unit for the front sata connectors seen earlier in the review.

It is worth pointing out that the inside of the case is finished to an extremely high level and you can see from the shot above that the aluminium has received special treatment.
