QNAP 639 Pro NAS

QNAP 639 Pro NAS

The results show us that the QNAP 639 Pro is an exceptional performer across the board and there are no issues with the macintosh networking aspect of the NAS system which makes it perfectly suitable if you have a mixed network. Enabling encryption vastly hampers the performance, especially when writing files however in a home network this could be disabled without worries – this is more an option for a critical business environment. With encryption disabled we can see there are slight performance increases when compared against the 509 Pro – we can attribute this to port trunking and load balancing with the 2 gigabit cables connected on the 639 pro.

In regards to noise, the system only omits a small humming sound from the power supply and the fan speed never increased above the low setting (low-med-high), even with two Raid 0 internally configured systems (2×3 and 2×3) constantly sending data back and forward between the drives. I measured 22-24db at a distance of 3 feet with a DB meter.
