Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard

Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard

It is no secret that the last Razer keyboard we looked at, the Tarantula, was a complete disappointment. In terms of features it was excellent but actually using the keyboard was a far from fulfilling experience, I found it uncomfortable over long term use. Additionally the rearrangement of button order such as that used for Print Screen, Scroll Lock, etc was completely unnecessary.

With today’s review product Razer have the chance to make amends. The Lycosa is the latest keyboard to be released by the California based company and on first glance it appears to have at least a few improvements over the Tarantula.

Here are Razer’s official specifications:

* Keytop with non-slip rubber finish
* Backlight illumination with WASD cluster lighting option
* Fully-programmable keys with macro capability
* Gaming cluster with anti-ghosting capability
* Slim keycap structure with Hyperesponse™ technology
* TouchPanel™ easy access media keys
* Gaming mode option for deactivation of the Windows key
* 10 customizable software profiles with on-the-fly switching
* 1000Hz Ultrapolling™ / 1ms response time
*Earphone-out and microphone-in jacks
*Detachable wrist rest
* One integrated USB extension port
* Approximate size:
469mm (length) x 168mm (width) x 15mm (height) – without wrist rest
469mm (length) x 221mm (width) x 15mm (height) – with wrist rest

Packaging and Bundle

The Lycosa is packaged in a well thought out box. The front depicts a large image of the product and the back details specifications and feature information as well as a further picture. The packaging is exceptionally well thought out.

Inside we find the keyboard protected by a foam bag and the wiring neatly tucked away in a plastic sleeve. Also inside are the items Razer bundle with this product – a certificate of authenticity, warranty information, product catalogue, stickers, quick-start guide, driver CD and in-depth manual. Without Razer going over the top this is a pretty flawless bundle with only one item we would like to see added, a microfiber cloth, but more on that shortly.
