Rocket Lake-S on March 15, Alder Lake-S in December

According to the HKEPC site, Intel would launch its Series 11 named Rocket Lake-S on March 15. Our sources tell us about March 20…But with a few days to go we can say that the end of March period is confirmed a little more. Until now, we were talking about an availability rather on April, it seems that Intel is ahead of this calendar. Architecture de Cypress Cove Intel Rocket Lake S

Alder Lake-S announced in September, available in December

HKEPC also confirmed that the announcement of the 12 series, which many consider a major milestone for Intel, will take place in September. However, the actual commercial launch would not take place until December. The other interesting information in this article concerns the etching technology that would be used for the Alder Lake-S series. It is therefore confirmed that the process used would be based on 10 nm Enhanced SuperFin, instead of a “just” 10 nm SuperFin architecture as many people have mentioned. This would mean that the design of this processor would be more advanced than the Tiger Lake series, also in 10nm. It should be noted that Intel did confirm that Alder Lake will have a 10nm ESF architecture last January. Alder Lake-S CPU

Another gain over Tiger Lake

As summarized here, the Alder Lake series will use high efficiency (small) and high performance (large) cores, similar to ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture. The large cores (Golden Cove) would offer an IPC gain of 20% over Willow Cove (available in the Tiger Lake series).

New platform required

Alder Lake-S will require new motherboards with an LGA1700 socket. This socket is expected to last at least 3 generations. The new platform will move to DDR5 and PCI Gen5 interfaces (no doubt that DDR4 solutions will also exist at the time of launch). With the delays that seem to be taking shape at AMD, Intel may have the opportunity to regain leadership in late 2021 / early 2022 before the arrival of Zen 4 CPUs.
