RTX 30 “LHR” refresh on the market in May?

Nvidia is about to replace its current 30 series of RTX cards with a refresh named internally LHR ( for Lite Hash Rate ).

We already gave you this information a while ago, it now seems that the GPUs that Nvidia will ship to brands in the next few days will all be RTX Refresh GPUs from the LHR series.

Refresh or not Refresh?

Nvidia seems to have communicated with its partners in the last few days: the new LHR chips will replace the current cards to fight crypto-currency mining. The main differences between the existing NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series and the Lite Hash Rate series will come down to the injection of the new hash rate limiter within the chip, making it a priori impossible to bypass the system. Can we really talk about a refresh?

  • A priori we should not expect a change in the characteristics of the cards but a more efficient flange intended in particular for Ether mining.
  • These “new” graphics cards will be identified by new GPU references of the type GA ** 2 and will be delivered with the resizable BAR support ready to use (no need to flash the vBIOS).
  • No price difference ( again according to Nvidia vision )
  • No change in performance or drivers.

Here are the new GPU references:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 – GA102-300-A1 -> GA102-302-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 – GA102-200-A1 -> GA102-202-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 – GA104-300-A1 -> GA104-302-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti – GA104-200-A1 -> GA104-202-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 – GA106-300-A1 -> GA106-302-A1

Obviously, miners beware: flashing a new card called LHR with an old BIOS will not work. So the next few hours are going to be tense for those who absolutely want an RTX 30 immediately. The whole crypto world will be on alert.

Towards a “plateau” effect on availability?

These last weeks the availability of cards is even more catastrophic than during the worst hours of this great period. This may be due to the LHR version that Nvidia wants to generalize as soon as possible because our contacts at the brands indicate that for the last month the deliveries of GPUs by the chameleon have been scarce.

So let’s be positive and hope that this “plateau” (the vocabulary of circumstance) will quickly bring us to better by the end of May. This information could be made official with the launch of the RTX 3080Ti also scheduled for the end of May.
