RTX 3060: the card that will shine this summer [update]

We told you about the conflicting reports of a return to normalcy in the graphics card market a few days ago. We take advantage of our latest information to complete the picture and give you a little more material if you’re thinking of making a purchase in the next few days, especially of an RTX 3060… Who remembers today that this card was launched at… 335€? Brief update on 30/07/2021 -> End of page

RTX 3060 lancement

Memories, memories……

Still a tight market but less madness

As we speak there is no real improvement in the situation as far as Nvidia is concerned. As we’ve said before, the chameleon has not found a hidden production capacity during a visit to Samsung that would allow it to get some air. The same goes for the messages about the RTX 2060 or the small GTX being discontinued: these cards benefit from a different manufacturing process than the 30 series. However, there are several signals that we can clearly see an easing of the pressure on certain references. Here is what we can say.

RTX 3060

Better on the RTX 3060, RTX 3070 in tension this summer

The situation is easing for several reasons but the main one is the return of a certain level of stock at the brands and distributors. So beware, we are far from a plethora of stock but the information we have from distributors is clear: cards that were sold in a few hours or even a few minutes a few weeks ago, require a little more time… or a little more effort from retailers. That’s why brands and distributors are saying that they have to lower their margins. Because the most important information is there, there is no decrease on the part of Nvidia, it is well on the side of the brands and the distributors that the decrease is committed. RTX 3060 under 500€ soon?

The card most “favoured” by this situation is the RTX 3060. Until recently it was one of the preferred choices of miners (along with the 3060Ti), but with the fall of cryptos, the switch to LHR chips… A certain amount of stock is now available. In addition to that, we have to add the summer, the changes of preoccupation linked to the end of the pandemic (holidays, restaurants, swimming pool…). According to our information, we can expect to find the RTX 3060 around 500€ and possibly even below that from July. As we said, this situation is not the result of an industrial miracle or anything else. The supply (volumes) is still the same. On the other hand, the irrational demand that pushed some people to buy cards at double or triple the price is running out of steam. This situation gives customers back choice and the possibility to compare instead of jumping on a generous “drop” here or there. In these conditions, margins are falling and prices are returning to a normal level, still high but less crazy. On the other hand, in terms of production, it is the RTX 3070 that should suffer in July with less availability. For the latter, we will have to wait a little longer.

Update on 30/07/2021: our latest information

We had to wait for the announcement of the new AMD RX 6600XT card to be able to talk about this “comeback” of the RTX 3060. During our exchanges with our contacts at AMD’s and Nvidia’s partner brands, they all confirmed the information we gave you in June. Nvidia is currently ramping up deliveries of RTX 3060 GPUs to manufacturers. The direct consequence of this much higher volume than in recent months is that we can clearly expect a real price drop on the RTX 3060 in the coming days. If the €339 launch price target seems illusory, the RTX 3060 will be much more readily available in August and it should be possible to find it under €400. Obviously, AMD’s launch and Nvidia’s effort to “promote” this 3060 GPU are unrelated…
