Ryzen 5 3600 + RTX 3080: the player’s ideal combo?

Ryzen 5 3600 + RTX 3080: the player’s ideal combo?

While much is being said about the availability and use of the new Nvidia cards, the question of the balance of a new PC built around this card also needs to be asked. The future buyer of a PC with an almost exclusively gaming concern will thus want to avoid “restricting” his investment by a bad choice of CPU.

Our friends at Techspot have therefore decided to confront a small selection of processors to see which was the best combo for the one who wanted to play. For the purposes of this test, 15 games running at 1080p, 1440p and 4K will be tested with an I9 10900K, a Ryzen 3950X and of course the Ryzen 5 3600. This is in a basic configuration using 32GB of DDR4-3200 CL14 memory. In a second case, the same configuration will be overclocked to 4.4 GHz, while keeping the DDR4-3200 memory, so as not to blow the budget.

No need to buy a bigger CPU?

After benchmarks on this largely representative sample of games, the initial intuition is confirmed, namely the relevance of the Ryzen 3600 to build a gaming machine. The Ryzen 3600 in no way limits the performance of the RTX 3080, and its overclocking potential makes it a wise choice for those who want to rack their brains a bit.

Indeed, pushing the Ryzen 3600 with CTR software for example, will improve its performance without any particular effort or investment.

The alternatives: the Core i5 10400F and the future Ryzen 5600?

For those who are psychologically blocked on AMD, we can also recommend the Core i5 10400F, a clearly under-rated processor that also allows excellent results to be obtained with an excellent quality-price ratio.

Finally, it should be noted that the “replacement” for the Ryzen 3600, the future Ryzen 5600, will not be available until the beginning of next year. Although its base price should be higher, its release will correspond to the arrival of the bios making the B450 and X470 motherboards compatible in particular… this will again improve the performance/price ratio of the system.
