Samsung increases the price of its wafers

While TSMC already made a similar announcement a few days ago, as expected it is the entire foundry industry that is following suit. According to some sources, Samsung could apply an increase of up to 20%.

Samsung is expanding its “foundry” business to compete with TSMC

This is not a surprise as Samsung had already informed its customers that it would increase the prices of its products in the second half of this year. The exact price increase will obviously depend on the relationship with the customer and especially on its order volume. If Mydrivers’ sources are correct, the new prices will officially come into effect in four to five months, which means that products coming to our market will not be impacted until next year…However, let’s keep in mind that this market has the particularity of being highly speculative and anticipates increases faster than decreases.

RTX 30s will be impacted by Samsung’s rise

Samsung’s two main customers are Nvidia and Qualcomm, the former with its RTX 30 and the latter with its Snapdragon 888 / 888+. Apparently the latter have already accepted the increase and signed new contracts. Regarding Nvidia and given the timing, we can think that this increase could be allocated to the new RTX Super that many rumors announce for the beginning of next year. These new increases are obviously not likely to reassure future buyers since they will be entirely passed on to the customer.
