South Korea wants to become a leader in semiconductors

While we regularly talk about the size of the countries that dominate the world economically today, it is surprising to see that in this technological struggle that upsets the balance, Taiwan and South Korea are the two countries that are doing well. Their power in the field of semiconductors is growing stronger by the day.

Semiconductors: the revenge of the “small”?

These two countries, smaller than France, have methodically acquired a strategic position that cannot be ignored. We won’t go back to Taiwan, whose TSMC seems to be the metronome of the technology world today. But what about South Korea, the home of Samsung, LG, SK Hynix… And this “small country” has decided to speed up again. Sk Hynix factory

South Korea: A 450 billion dollar investment plan.

The Korean government has just presented an ambitious 10-year investment plan of 450 billion dollars, in order to strengthen its semiconductor manufacturing industry. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will be the main carriers of this plan in a context where the USA is trying to regain the train it has lost and China to climb in the latter. With its technological lead and like what Taiwan is doing with TSMC, Korean companies want to maintain the gap. Semi conducteurs If Korea is globally competitive in the manufacture of semiconductors as a whole, the heart of its activity was based until recently on the production of memory, but Samsung, first for its internal needs (smartphones and so on) began to produce SoC and then to take care of the manufacture of GPUs for Nvidia in particular. The Korean companies of the sector could thus accentuate their efforts to follow this strategy towards logic chips, so that their foundry capacity attracts the “fabless” companies like AMD, Nvidia, Apple etc.
