SSD Roundup August 2009

Adobe Media Encoder

Adobe Media Encoder is another real world application and for this test we are running a 1920×1080 .avi file through the utility and converting it to H.264. The drives are all acting as the source and destination for the files to create a demanding scenario.

When encoding video with the Core-i7 975 CPU we can see that there is a noticeable increase in performance when moving from a fast mechanical drive to a SSD. Each of the models tested was able to outperform the Western Digital RaptorX with the largest gap being 1 minute 5 seconds on the Corsair P128. RAID 0 has a small impact on the performance of the drives also and allows us to drop the time taken by a further 35 seconds.
