SSD Roundup March 2009

Intel X25-M SSD – 80Gb

The first drive in today’s roundup was supplied to us by Intel with their Core-i7 review kit and therefore has no packaging or bundled items. The retail samples actually arrive in a very basic brown box with paper installation leaflet but as these use the same SATA interface as most current hard disks fitting this drive should be easy. The sticker attached to the top of the drive tells us that this is a 80Gb unit (160gb is available) which uses the 3GB/s SATA 2 interface. It is a 2.5inch drive, weighs 80g, and is based on NAND MLC technology using 29F32G08CAMC1 chips. As with most SSDs, Intel has chosen a 2-year warranty on this device.

Finally, the important statistics for those interested in the speed of this drive are 250MB/s read and 70MB/s write.
