SSD250N: SSD for NAS from Transcend!

SSD250N: SSDs for NAS!

Transcend SSD250N

With this series, the brand offers us SSD “in the old way” in 2.5″ format with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface. Regarding the capacities, we have models in 1Tb and 2Tb.

Internally, we have little information about the components used. We only know that the memory will be of there 3D NAND, but its type remains unknown. The same goes for its controller. However, we know that a DRAM cache is present to improve its performance.

The performances, moreover, let us speak about it. With its SATA III interface, clearly, it will not be a war lightning like the latest NVMe. But its role is to allow a 24/7 use while being faster than a mechanical hard disk. Thus, we find sequential speeds of up to 560 MB/s in reading and 480 MB/s in writing. The random performances go up to 82k IOPS in reading against 80k IOPS in writing. In short, classic values for this kind of SSD.

However, the brand announces a particularly long life span. This is what we look at first for an SSD dedicated to NAS. Thus, the lifespan is announced at 2,000 TBW with an MTBF of 2,000,000 hours.

For the moment, we still don’t know the selling prices of these models. Nevertheless, we know that the warranty will be 5 years, which is not bad!
