The Core i5-11400, the right move in Rocket Lake?

The Core i5-11400, the right move in Rocket Lake?

We had been able to see some very contrasting leaks of results for the i5 11400 under Geekbench. This time, it was the final version (and not a pre-production sample) that passed the tests. The 11400 Rocket Lake-S is a CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads under the Cypress Cove architecture engraved in 14nm +++ . It has Base / Turbo frequencies of 2.60 / 4.40 GHz, while its predecessor, the Intel Core i5-10400, offers the same core configuration but in Skylake architecture with frequencies of 2.90 / 4.30 GHz.

Core i5-11400 VS i5-10400: +34% performance ?

According to the table published by Videocardz, the i5 11400 offers a single-core performance of about 1490-1500 points (1495) while the multi-core performance is about 6576-6664 points (6620). Compared to its big brother the 10400, it is 34% better in single-core and 16% better in multi-core.

Scorecard If the comparison with the 5600X with 6 cores and 12 threads is still not to the advantage of Intel’s latest product, it should not be forgotten that the 11400, like its predecessor, should take advantage of AMD’s weaknesses in this price segment. Indeed, in addition to the problematic availability of “low-priced” processors, the new i5 should be almost €100 cheaper than the AMD. Finally, it is said that this reference will also have a less chaotic availability. We also note that the tests on this Intel processor were carried out with an ASRock Z590M Pro4 motherboard (chipset useless for this processor) and 16GB of DDR4-2133 MHz ram… A choice which undoubtedly penalized the new Intel CPU.
