The CPU is on the back of this motherboard!

The CPU is on the back of this motherboard!

Being able to mount your CPU on the back of your motherboard is a funny idea. But don’t think that the Enctec company behind this project is just looking for a “marketing coup”. The idea is to create a board specifically designed for passive processor cooling. A “simple” heatsink was not the best way to go about this idea. Indeed, even with a large surface area, this heatsink could not keep the CPU cool enough and the heat release interfered with other components at the front of the board, such as memory or PCIe slots. Very quickly, the idea was to move the CPU socket to the back of the board and complete the device with a giant passive heatsink. This famous heatsink is also a product of the company, the Cooling Extreme HP-01, a beautiful baby of more than a kilo with respectable dimensions (370mmx200mmx60mm) but which finds its lace thanks to the system of the socket “reversed”. Obviously, the use of such a system requires a specific case. But Enctec’s goal is to provide a complete solution so this is not really a problem. Let’s not forget that the target here is PCs for professional or industrial use. The motherboards developed are therefore not based on the latest chipsets in circulation on the market. However, the company “already” offers a Z490. It would be interesting to see if the idea can be expanded because the fact of being able to deport the socket allows interesting things even if we have to forget everything we know in terms of chassis. Gamers Nexus had the opportunity to test a product of the company using this concept. https://youtu.be/chNM_nntwKU
