The Ryzen 9 5900H: a monster?

Ryzen 9 5900: a significant leap in performance in less than a year

Recently there has been talk of the Ryzen 9 5900HX which will be the top of the range of Cezanne-H mobile processors that AMD will present at CES 2021 in a few days time. Ryzen 5900HX Laptop

The 5900H also looks like a formidable processor, according to a series of benches that have been leaking in recent times. At the moment, it is not yet clear how this Ryzen 9 5900H will work. The processor could have, like the 5900HX, a design planned for 45 W but configurable at 35 W according to the chassis. However, it would not be able to allow users to overclock their CPU.

Is the Ryzen 9 5900H faster than an i9-10900 desktop?

It is once again the tireless TUM_APISAK who got his hands on results from Geekbench. The Ryzen 9 5900H will be equipped with 8 cores and 16 threads. The chip will have 16 MB of L3 cache and 4 MB of L2 cache. The basic CPU clock is expected to be at 3.30 GHz while the boost frequency is expected to be 4.60 GHz.

The Ryzen 9 5900H CPU was tested on a standard test platform equipped with 32 GB DDR4-3200 MHz memory. The processor scored 1520 points in single-core and 9325 points in multi-core tests. In comparison, the Ryzen 9 4900HS, its predecessor, scored 1092 points in single-core tests and 7040 points in multi-core tests. The gain is therefore more than significant. Even compared to a desktop CPU such as the Core i9-10900 (10 cores with a maximum power limit of approximately 220 W), the 35 W (45 W cTDP) Ryzen 9 5900H offers the same level of multi-core performance and exceeds the Core i9-10900 in single-core tests thanks to the spectacular IPC advances achieved by the Zen 3 architecture.

Cezanne-H VS Tiger Lake-H: the battle will be lively

We now know that AMD will be able to use the whole Nvidia graphics card series on its next laptops, unlike the previous generation. The first performance leaks of the Intel Tiger Lake-H allow us to envisage a real knife fight. The difference will undoubtedly be made once again on price and availability. It is therefore difficult to get an idea of the trend that will emerge in 2021. To give you an idea, you will find below a summary of the Geekbenchs results published in table form by our comrades at Wccftech. Geekbench Ryzen 9 5900H
