Why the latest Windows 10 update is important

The latest cumulative update released for Windows 10 is considered optional by Microsoft. Indeed, it does not include any security patches. However, it is of great importance for the many users who are tearing their hair out after last month’s major security patch.

The Windows update not to be neglected…

Many users have noticed spikes in CPU usage since this installation. The crux of the problem is when two threads try to access a shared memory space, creating a kind of priority conflict and sometimes making one or more processes or programs unresponsive.

If you have recently been experiencing high CPU usage for no apparent reason, or if you are experiencing performance drops in certain games that were not noticeable before, then you are right in the situation we have just described.

The immediate solution is to install the cumulative update (KB5001391) currently available via Windows Update. If you want to wait, it will be deployed to everyone around May 11.

This new update also solves a problem that causes high memory usage for the lsass.exe process until the system becomes unstable. For laptop users with a hybrid graphics system (GPU & iGPU), this update solves a problem with multimedia playback not working on an external monitor connected via the integrated GPU while using hardware accelerated decoding on the dedicated GPU…A rare case of course, but it does exist.

Windows MAJ

This May 11, the date of Patch Tuesday, Microsoft could start the official deployment of its 21H1 version which will integrate in addition to the above-mentioned fixes the following features:

  • multi-camera Windows Hello support to set the external camera as the default when both external and internal Windows Hello cameras are present.
  • improved performance of Windows Defender Application Guard, including optimized document opening scenario times.
  • improved performance of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service Update (GPSVC) to support remote working scenarios.
