With DDR5, XMP 3.0 is coming

XMP 3.0, an evolution to maximize DDR5 gain

For those not familiar with XMP, this extension provides additional settings for motherboards to enable refined overclocking profiles for specific DDR3 or DDR4 kits. Some modules have multiple profiles that provide even more settings for advanced overclocking. In other words, enabling these settings allows you to get extra performance without effort or risk of instability. Looking through the v7.05 beta version of the HWiNFO diagnostic software, ComputerBase was able to see that Intel is now working on an XMP 3.0 version for DDR5 memory. xmp 3.0 DDR5 memory will reach up to 6400 Mbps in the official specifications. The XMP profile could extend this range from 7,200 to 8,400 Mbps. Indeed, memory manufacturers like Geil or Galax have already announced to work on DDR5 overclocking kits going from 7200 Mbps to 10000 Mbps. DDR5 is expected to be available by the end of the year on Intel Alder Lake platforms. This memory should offer many new features and specificities to increase performance and overclocking. Finally, if we are to believe the projections, DDR5 should be massively adopted by the market. Its penetration will be very fast since analysts think that it will be in the majority by 2023, probably making its price more accessible. Intel is therefore expected to launch a DDR5 platform by the end of 2021 and AMD should offer its new Zen 4 architecture in DDR5 during 2022.
