X58 DDR3 Memory Roundup June 2011

X58 DDR3 Memory Roundup June 2011 featuring Patriot, Corsair, Crucial, Kingston and G.Skill Memory Kits

Synthetic Testing

For our synthetic testing we run the modules through a selection of applications which are designed to test performance of components in a reliable, repeatable manner. We have selected the latest build of SiSoft Sandra to test Memory Bandwidth and Cinebench R11.5 to test productivity performance. To find out if there is any impact from these modules on gaming performance we have run our systems through the Performance preset on 3DMark 2011 Professional Edition and to round things off we have stressed the full system with PCMark 7

Cinebench R11.5

3DMark 2011 Professional

PCMark 7

The results above show that when running PCMark or 3DMark there is very little difference in performance between the various kits. Cinebench on the other hand is much more sensitive in changes to memory and we see benefits from the modules with the tightest timings (Crucial) and those with the fastest MHz rating, the Patriot sticks. Amount of memory doesn’t really impact Cinebench though. Where we do see some benefit from the amount of memory installed is the bandwidth test where the Kingston modules get a small boost from the additional 12GB, Patriot also do well here with the extra 400MHz giving them a 2GB/s advantage despite looser timings.

Let’s see how that translates to real world use.
