Our testing was performed at 1680×1050 with 16x anisotropic filtering. Once again all in-game settings are on their highest setting which means DirectX10 and in game anti-aliasing enabled. Gears of War has an interesting set of performance figures. In average and maximum frames per second the 8800 GS performs better, but on minimum frames per second it is the Radeon. The framerates are also less prone to extreme peaks and troughs on the 3850 giving a slightly more stable frame rate throughout. The result is that both cards would benefit from lowering the detail levels a little to achieve perfect performance but the Radeon just squeezes in as playable at our tested settings where as the drop in detail is a requirement on the GS.
