When testing the performance of the various products we are reviewing today the results in areas such as Photoshop or Cinebench are very easy to understand. Look for the quickest or highest and you have the best performer but when testing the onboard graphics it is a little tougher. For example although the G33 board shows slightly better performance in Counter Strike Source the DirectX level available to it is limited to 9.0 where as the 630/610 have the option of selecting 9.0c. A lot of the time this can make very little difference however Lost Planet shows one of the real down sides to the G33. The advanced engine used by the game requires DirectX 9.0c and will therefore not run on the G33 at all.

In terms of graphics performance for this review we took two approaches to our testing. The first saw us use Counter Strike Source at default detail levels and 1024×768, which represents the average casual gaming scenario. Our second test involved running Lost Planet Colonies at the demanding setting of 1024×768 with medium detail. This test was designed to stress the graphics capability as much as possible to show which product performs best.

Looking to the AM2+ systems we see that performance of the GeForce 8200 is not as good as the 780G when playing Counter Strike Source. Both cards provide perfectly playable framerates at our tested settings but the 780G gives us the option of using anti-aliasing or a slightly higher resolution. In the Lost Planet test performance is much closer but the 780G is able to just pip the 8200.
