Comparison Products

In order to see just how good or bad the XFX low end products are we will be comparing them to two boards from Gigabyte. The socket 775 models will be compared to the G33-DS3R which features onboard X3100 graphics, six SATA ports and support for dual channel memory as well as 1600FSB, it retails at £77. The AM2+ board will be compared to the MA78GM-S2H which is based on the AMD 780G chipset featuring the Radeon HD3200 graphics as well as support for up to 16GB of memory, it retails at £53.

NOTE:  XFX 610 – £40    630-£43
8200 – £53

Discrete GFX

Testing of discrete graphics performance as well as GeForce boost was performed using the XFX GeForce 8500 GT. This card is based on the 80nm G86 core and features eight ROPs, sixteen unified shaders and support for DirectX10. Clock speeds of this card are 500MHZ core, 333MHz memory and 1026 MHz shader. As well as being a card worth considering for gamers on a budget the 8500GT is also ideal for those looking to build a low noise system as it is passively cooled.
